Dr Louise Canacott

Clinical Psychologist

Dr Louise is a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist with experience working with adolescents and adults across a range of clinical settings including community mental health services, inpatient services, criminal justice settings and specialist trauma services. She has experience in building effective therapeutic relationships to enable clients to work towards their goals in a collaborative and supportive manner.

Alongside her role in the Consulting Clinic Dr Louise is employed as a Senior Clinical Psychologist in an adolescent inpatient service.

Dr Louise is a Chartered Clinical and Forensic Psychologist with the Psychological Society of Ireland.

Expertise

Dr Louise is trained in the assessments and interventions associated with a range of clinical problems including depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders, emotional regulation difficulties, attachment difficulties and trauma.

Dr Louise has particular expertise in trauma including the impact of childhood trauma, complex trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder and has delivered guest lectures on these topics at UK Universities. She has worked in a number of specialist trauma services and embarked on further training in trauma-focused interventions including EMDR, Trauma-focused CBT, Narrative Exposure Therapy and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology

  • MSc Forensic Psychology

  • BSc (Hons) Psychology through Science

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Level 3

  • Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy Level 2

  • Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2 (ADOS-2)

  • Clinical Supervision (BPS Accredited)
